By Breeding[]
Gargryph is genderless, it can't get any of the Egg Moves listed through natural means (unless learnable elsewhere such as via a Mystery Gift event, TM, and/or Move Tutor).
Gargryph is the only Pokémon in the Flying Egg Group that is not part of an evolutionary line that is Flying-type at some point, or even in any evolutionary line at all.
Additionally, Gargryph is the only Genderless Pokémon in the Flying Egg Group.
Gargryph's cry is an edited version of Skarmory's.
Gargryph has by far the most Egg Steps from all Pokemon that are breedable.
Despite learning Fire-type moves via TM, Gargryph cannot be taught Sunny Day. Conversely, Gargryph can be taught Rain Dance even though it cannot learn Hurricane, Thunder, or any other Water-type moves.
Design Origin[]
Gargryph is based off a griffin-shaped grotesque, a carved stone ornament of a chimerical creature. Grotesques are common in European Gothic architecture and are often confused with gargoyles (gargoyles have water spouts in their mouths while grotesques are merely decorative). The shield on its chest may be a reference to the shields used in many coats of arms, which often depicted mythical creatures such as griffins, or it may refer to its high defense stat.
Name Origin[]
Gargryph is a combination of gargoyle and gryphon (an alternate way to spell griffin).
