You cannot return to Route 8 after beating the Vinoville Town Gym until you beat the game. Be sure to grab the Good Rod, S51, and any other items or Pokémon you want from this Route.
Main article: Hazard Zone
After beating the Vinoville Town Gym, Route 8 will turn into a Hazard Zone with altered terrain and wild Pokémon encounters. Items and trainers are no longer present and the route now connects to the Nuclear Plant Zeta.
This route features rich golden wheat fields nestled in a dense forest and a serene fish farm pond. The vast fields provide wild Pokémon a great habitat to thrive while farmers tend to the land.

Fishing Pond
Due west of the landing for the BB Ferry, you'll find a house next to a lake, with a fisherman standing on a dock. Speak to him to receive the Good Rod. There is a house located near here with an old lady that heals your Pokémon and a PC.
Just southeast of the wheat fields, before continuing to Vinoville Town or Legen Town you will find the home of the wheat farmer. If you visit during the day you'll find his daughter, Ripley, tired and sleep deprived; she will tell you to come back later.
When you visit Ripley again during the night, she'll tell you about the strange crop circles that keep appearing in her family's wheat fields and she will ask for your help. If you agree to help her, she will reward you with a S51; this is the only way you can catch one in the game.
In the southwest corner of Route 8 is the gate to Route 11. However, until you have completed the storyline, the gate guard will turn you back, telling you that Route 11 is a nature preserve. Pokémon trainers are not allowed to catch wild Pokémon there or even enter without special permission.
Ripley is an obvious nod toward the sci-fi heroine Ellen Ripley, who had a run-in with extraterrestrials of a bit less amicable nature in Alien.
Route 8's BGM is the World Map music from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.
Ripley's story is very similar to Malon's story from The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, with both having run-ins with aliens and both living on farms.
