Tactics[]

Certain Pokemon can excel more than others at using False Swipe to capture Pokemon:

  • Felunge is one of the best users of the move as it can also have Intimidate to lower an opponent's ATK, Normal STAB, an ATK-boosting move in Hone Claws, and the only 100% accurate non-Mystery Gift Sleep move in the game, Yawn, to further increase catching success.
  • Tanscure has all the same benefits of Felunge (minus Intimidate and Hone Claws) but can stil boost its ATK with Howl, Guts, and/or Tough Claws, can be bred with Yawn, and learns Odor Sleuth to hit Ghost-Types without the need for Scrappy.
  • Although Metalynx and Saidine/Daikatuna lack some of the pros mentioned previously they have 2 very noteworthy advantages: The first being their ability to learn Swords Dance without needing the post-game TM, and the second is their Steel-typing, which makes them only take neutral damage from Nuclear-type attacks without also being vulnerable to other attacks like Geigeroach. Mega Metalynx's Heatproof ability even reduces damage taken from burns via Radioacid.
  • Jerbolta is mostly outclassed by all aforementioned candidates, except when attempting to catch multiple Duplicats because, thanks to its Quick Charge ability, Jerbolta can outrun any Duplicat and hit them before they have the chance to set up a Substitute or confuse Jerbolta. Since Duplicats can't be bred, Jerboltas (along with Level Balls) are seen as the ideal False Swipe users for stat-hunting Duplicats for breeding.
