Yatagaryu is also the only dual-type Pokémon that gains a weakness to the Ground type under normal circumstances after evolution. (though its previous forms would still be weak to it under the effects of Smack Down or Gravity).
Prior to version 1.2, Yatagaryu used Garchomp's cry.
Design origin
Yatagaryu is based on the Japanese mythological creature Yatagarasu, the three-legged crow. It also seems to be based partially on Asian dragons, given its shape, typing, and powers.
Name origin
Yatagaryu is a portmanteau of yatagarasu and ryu (Japanese for "dragon").
